Question

I have a kitty who is virtually impossible to medicate and it is crucial for his recovery that he take his meds. I put some in a syringe and squirt into his mouth more often than now around his mouth and a pill shooter for the other med that I can barely get into his mouth. What can I do - I know all about wrapping a towel around him and tipping his head as far back as I can to and shooting the liquid on the roof of his mouth - never works and the pill shooter which never gets into his throat like it should. I am frantic - are there any other methods - I crush the pill and put it in the lactulose but still have to get it in his mouth.\\can't put things on his food as I have another kitty and also work full time. What can I do short of taking him to the vet each am and pm and then try and get to work!!!

Already Tried:
Pill shooter for one med - syringe for the liquid med with a powder mixed in it. Cannot control him even with a towel wrapped around him and he is strong and can't get into his mouth well. Tried all the vet and tech told me to do.

Accepted Answer

Dear Nancy,

Amost anything can be compounded at a pharmacy into a salve and rubbed on the ears twice a day. See here:

http://www.oakdellpharmacy.com/compounding.html

If he is taking antibiotics a two week covenia shot can be used instead of daily doses.

Please discuss this with your vet. There is nosense stressing both of you by trying to medicate orally.

Please let me know how hings are going.

Warmest best wishes,

Terri
