Question

I have a Toshiba P15 S409 Windows XP laptop with a non-functioning DVD player/writer. It is a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ 811. The drive D: is being seen by the computer but nothing is happening. Help?

Downloading both the MAtshita and Toshiba drivers. Deleting the Secondary IDE channel [since reinstalled].

Hi,
Please follow the instructions below step by step and let me know.

1. Click Start-->Run and type regedit in the text box and press enter.

2. Click "File" in the menu.

3. Click "Export" from the drop-down menu.

4. Click the down arrow beside "Save In" and select Local Disk

5. Type Backup.reg in the File Name field.

6. Click Save.

1. Click Start and click Run.

2. In the Open box, type regedit and click OK.

3. Click the plus (+) sign beside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

4. Click the plus (+) sign beside System.

5. Click the plus (+) sign beside Current Control Set.

6. Click the plus (+) sign beside Control.

7. Click the plus (+) sign beside Class.

8. Locate the {4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} key

and click it.

9. On the File menu, click Export.

10. In the File name box, type savedkey and click Save. It is

better
to save the "savedkey" to the desktop.

11. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters (found in

right
window pane) and then click Delete on the Edit menu.

12. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

NOTE: If this data type is missing, continue to the next
method.

13. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters (found in

right
window pane) and click Delete on the Edit menu.

14. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

15. Quit the Registry Editor and restart the computer.

Just did all this. Now there is an error message. D:\is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O error.

Ok
Try the steps below as this seems to be a hardware problem after performing the steps if the problem persist or of could not detect the discs then you have to replace the drive.

Click Start-->Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter.

Device manager will open up.

Click the + sign beside DVD/CD Drives.

Right Click on the device listed under it and select Uninstall

Restart the PC and let the driver install automatically.

Check the issue once again.

This seems to be a hardware problem it happens when something is defective on the circuite baord of the drive it can be repaired but repairing it will be waste of money and time.

so replacing the drive won't do it? The touchpad isn't working either and I have tried reloading drivers etc. You're saying it is on the mother board?

Been doing that, but will an external cd player/recorder solve the other problem?
