Hello and welcome to Just Answer. As a chronic eczema sufferer...I feel your pain. There are a few ideas that I think may help you. The first is have you tried a prescription anti-fungal cream like Nystatin? If it is a fungal infection (which it may very well be), they are EXTREMELY difficult to get rid of. They are common among kids and is typically known as ringworm. As adults a fungal infection of the skin needs something stronger than the over the counter creams. Steroid creams will not help a fuingal infection. Ask your doctor for a trial of Nystantin cream. If you would like to trial it yourself without having to visit your doctor, you can actually purchase it online though a Canadian pharmacy (as it is NOT prescription in Canada and they will ship to the states.).

The next step is to try Milk Thistle....an herbal supplement that supports liver function. Often times skin problems are a reflection of damage to the liver - not anything as serious as cirrhosis or hepatitis....just a general overtaxed liver from either too much stress or taking too many prescription medications that are metabolized through the liver. You can purchase them at any vitamin or health food store, online, or even at some grocery stores in their vitamin section.

Please let me know if you have already tried these... Otherwise give it a shot. I have been eczema free for 2.5 years now and it feels good to not have to itch 24/7 and get poor sleep because of it. I am not saying your skin problem is eczema or dermatitis or anything else. But it is very suspicious of a long term fungal infection.

Kindly,
Nurse Tracy

I will give these a try................ as you can see, I have tried the nystantin w/ triaminilone cream. Does a ring worm not have to be a round red rash??? If it doesn't then maybe that is it!! I will also try the milk thistle. The last time I had routine blood tests, it showed my liver enzymes as being elevated, do you think that could be it?

Answer

Ringworm typically starts off as you stated but not always. Plus after a few months it can morph into any shape. As for your liver... If it is not functioning as it should, then the skin will suffer in some way. Age spots on the elderly are a common sign of poor liver function. Take the milk thistle for at least 3-6 months and you should see your skin clear as well as your liver enzymes go back down. FYI: It will not take 3-6 months to see results. In fact if your liver is causing the skin problem, you should see it start to clear within a week. But taking the milk thistle long term will help your liver overall. Nurse Tracy
