Question

I have been having black watery stools for the last 12 hours. I was having watery stools on the previous day. I took Milk of magnesia last night, which is what seemed to preceed the Blackness. I was taking oxycontin and flexeril post-op for Shoulder surgery for the last six days. I stopped taking the meds when the watery stools began (thinking I may be having a reaction to them). I have no appetite and little thirst.I have lost about 12 lbs in the past 3 days. Any advice?

No Fever, Cold Sweats, no cramps, No history of constipation, YES- Bloating..no flatulence, but frequent belching, Condition generally the same since last 12 hours, YES- weakness andlethargy . YES- Slight Nausea , no vomiting

Hello,
As such there may be possibility of Viral gastroenteritis in your case.
It 'll subside by it 's own in few days.
As such Milk of magnesia is used as a laxative to relieve occasional constipation and increases water in the intestines which may induce defecation..
You have taken it while you were suffering from diarrhea which later has worsen your symptoms more and resulted in presistent diarrhea .
Apart from this .black stools can also be suggestive of blood is coming from the upper part of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract which should be ruled out .

I suggest you to visit ER ASAP.
