Question

I have adopted a female spayed cat who is both an inside and outside domestic cat. She is a mixed breed with some tabby and siamese(I think). She came back inside early evening. She goes outside during the day and will be in at nite. This time came in and I could tell she was not her normal self. Upon checking her out, there was bleeding from her right rear hind quarter - upper-leg. I cleaned it off with warm soapy water and a clean white cloth. She then licked it some and has been resting all nite. This a.m. she is up on a pillow chair and purred when I checked her out again. The wound has coagulated and she appears calm. According to the family I adopted her from, she has had all her shots, including cat leukemia. She has not eaten since last evening. What would you suggest? from here?

Optional Information

Pet's Sex: Female
Pet's Age: 2

Already Tried:
Cleaning the wound with warm soapy water and a clean cloth. Letting her rest and not encouraging anything to eat at this point. She is near the fire, as it is cold here. For your information, we are in a very rural area. Thank you.

Thank you for your post!

I would recommend seeing your veterinarian as soon as possible. We do not know where the wound came from - another animal? trauma?

The wound should be evaluated, likely start on antibiotics to prevent infection - and receive a rabies booster vaccine as this may have been from another animal and we do not know the rabies status of the other animal.

This needs to be done to protect both her and you/your family!
