Accepted Answer

Greetings Toby,

A sharp pain even on swallowing saliva and liquids is not normal. After the esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) some discomfort or mild pain is expected especially if biopsy is taken or polyp is removed, especially with the solids. But that is minimal with the saliva and liquids. If you do not have any abdominal pain, bloating, chest pain, heart burns, restlessness, you may try to take some cold water, Gatorade, fresh juice or may be soup. If this does not give significant pain, you can wait till morning. If these also cause sharp pain or you have above symptoms, it would be prudent to get yourself evaluated at an urgent care clinic or at ER or talk to your physician on phone.

Please feel free for your follow up questions.
