Question

My golden retriever was diagnosed with Canine Lymphoma 6 months ago. He has only been treated with Prednisone. He is still doing great although the back of one of his knees is swollen, he lacks a lot of energy and he has a slow healing wound on the same swollen leg. Could he have been misdiagnosed as we were told he would be dead 4 months ago?

Hi XXXXXXXXXX, Welcome to Just Answer. I'm sorry your question has taken a while to get addressed. I just got on this morning. In direct response to the diagnosis of Lymphoma - it could have been mis-diagnosed. It all depends on what criteria and tests were run to diagnose it. The best way to diagnose it is to send of biopsy samples to the lab to identify it. In house, an aspirate of an enlarged lymph node can be done to see signs of it - but depending on your skills, this can be an area where inflammation looks similar. But, there is a chance that your little one is just doing better than than the prognosis with the lymphoma. Some dogs don't get out to the 4 months, some do better. He hopefully is responding well to the treatment and will continue to do well. Here is a good link on lymphoma. http://www.VeterinaryPartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=575 Dr. Bruce
