Hello,
The abdominal area has usually higher temperature (as it is covered by the clothing) than the exposed area of the body, when there is fever in children. His symptoms look like a viral upper respiratory tract infection, which usually resolves in 3-4 days. If the symptoms aggravate or newer symptoms arrive, he may need a throat swab by his primary care physician. The fever can have a diurnal variation (change in the intensity of the symptoms during day and night) in viral infections. Cough gets slightly worse in evening and night due to irritation by a runny nose which is not properly drained. You can give him Tylenol for the fever.
Please feel free for your follow up questions.
