Without retrieving the fault codes for the ABS, one can only guess what the problem is. Some ABS problems are reasonable in cost, others are not. Issues with the wheel speed sensors are common problems. They could just need adjusted or may need replaced, but a front sensor is over $400, a rear one is almost $800, and that's just for the part. And if the ABS hydraulic unit is bad, the part is a cool $4922.23- Ouch.
My recommendation is, if the owner really wants to sell it, offer to have the vehicle diagnosed by a reputable Land Rover repair facility before a deal is made, with the understanding the seller will either pay for the fix, or deduct the cost of repair from the fair market value selling price. If the vehicle is already priced under market value, you may not have much of a bargaining chip. Whatever you do, I recommend getting a estimate for repair before you commit. I don't know how many times I've had customers come to me after they already bought a used vehicle and then want it checked out. Then it's too late.
I hope this has answered your questions.
