Question

When I turn on my computer I get a box on the screen that says application error. exceptionEAccessViolation in Module XXXXXXXXXX exe at 00004DD4. Access violation at address 00404DD4 in Module '9336791849.exe'. Read of address D244268D. When I click the x in the upper right hand corner a box comes up that says XXXXXXXXXX exe. XXXXXXXXXX exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. There are 2 boxes debug and close. When I click on debug it takes me to a blank screen (no icons present) and I use the lower margin to click on to internet, etc. Can you tell me how to clear up this error. Thanks

Answer

start button then run

in the box type msconfig then run/ok

you will get a configuration utility

look in the tab startup

uncheck any boxes that match the error you are getting.

you can pretty much uncheck anything that looks funny. like just numbers leave anything that you reckognize and want. the command line will show what folder it is in so if you see something from /program/files/norton for example you can be pretty sure it is part of norton program if you have it installed etc

then go to services. hit the hide all microsoft services check box anything left you can uncheck if you dont reckognize and want it.

if you keep track of what you unchecked you can always go back and recheck them if a program you want needs it. but when in doubt leave it and you wont have to worry much.

robert, what you suggested seems to have worked, however, my icons are still not on the screen how can I get them back? Thanks

Accepted Answer

just rebooting sometimes helps that. dial-a-fix has a utility that will usually put your icons back. if there are not too many you can just do it manually. any program that you want as an icon find it on the start programs list right click on it select copy go to a blank part of your desktop screen right click and select paste as shortcut.
