Question

I am 47 yrs. old. I recently moved downstairs in a extra bedroom from a friend of mine who is 73.Just friends, never any sexual relations. I was living with someone at time. I had been through a very stressful divorce a year earlier. I really loved my boyfriend but I felt I needed some time to think and get feeling better about myself, and the 73 year old told me I could come and go as I pleased. That changed quick. He became very overbearing. He was becoming so controlling. He started asking me to marry him, and I would tell him NO. At first I thought he was picking then I soon realizes he was not.Pressuring me constantly. He refused to hear or listen to anything I said. I ended up leaving and I am back with my boyfriend. Now he harrasses me and my boyfriend constantly. I have 21 harrassing messages, countless letters, e-mails,threathening us. Has been documented with police. No chages filed. He's very vindictive. He needs more than a slap on his wrist. He won't stop. What can we do??

I am sorry that you are going through such an ordeal. Have you filed for a restraining order yet?

Then do so. Contact your local police department or local courthouse. Come in to fill out a protection order, alleging extreme harassment and fear of bodily harm or other injury, and file it. That should get you a temporary order. Then the courts will serve your "friend" and you will both have to attend a hearing where the judge will resolve the merits of your complaint and either make the order permanent or dismiss it.

If he violates it, you will be able to call the police and have him be arrested for contempt of judicial order charges.

Sincerely,

XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX XXXXXX, Esq.
