Question
We had a driveway poured this past August. After a couple of days it was mottled looking. The contractor said it would cure out in a couple weeks. Some of it did but all of it never turned the same color, very splotchy. So we waited longer before they came back to seal it. No Go. But we decided to live with it. Then it got cooler. But on a warmer day (50's) they came to seal it. But when they were done there were stripes of brownish sealant that never went away, and some big splotches. What now??? Thanks

Hi badddriveway
There isn't much you can do now except stain the driveway with concrete stain.

Thanks for your answer. I have another question, the driveway has some chips and actual small nicks, the size of a pea. The nicks are along the edges of the slabs of the concrete. The contractor told us they were caused by the concrete saw breaking and they should not get any larger. The chips are small and look like the top layer, very thin has been chipped off.
There are also some larger nicks, at one corner, it looks like the corner is crumbling, again small.
Can the contractor fix these? Orshould the driveway be repoured? Or are these issues that are expected with a driveway? Will the problems affect the durability and the life of the driveway?
I would like to find a solution that is fair to both us and the contractor.
Accepted Answer
If the chips are small and on the edges they are unlikely to get bigger assuming inferior concrete wasn't used. These chips shouldn't affect the durability of the drive way. If the dings are minor the fix will probably look worse than the ding.
I am a bit concerned about the quality of the job given all that you have mentioned. The top layer shouldn't flake off and I wonder about the splotches. There isn't much I can tell you from here since I can't look at the job in person. You might want to have somebody local give you a second opinion before you sign off on this job. There are companies that test concrete. They typically take samples of the concrete as it is being poured so they can't do that now but they may be able to advise further.
