sometimes it will start and run ruff then die within seconds. there is no security light on. every once in a great while it will idle great but will not rev over 2000 rpm. I have replaced the spark plugs, plug boots, coil packs, the tower, icm, fuel filter. i tried to start earlier and i ran for seconds again and the check engine light came on(first time) and it said that the crank sensor is not working.Replaced and car will not start now even with a shot of starting fluid. please help

ok,when you first turn your key on to the run position(the position right before the cranking position so not all the way as if you were trying to start it but right before)do you hear the fuel pump humming or hissing for about 2 seconds (the fuel pump is located in the fuel tank it may take a second person to listen when turning the key on).Let me know,Thanks Pete

Yes, It is running. How do I check the pressure to make sure it is running properly??

Accepted Answer

on this vehicle with the 4 cylinder engine GM didnt install a pressure port to have a guge hooked up to,so what usually has to be done is the fuel feed line back at the tank has to be disconnected to install an adapter to check the pressure with a gauge(kind of bad design). The most common problem next to the theft system loosing the key memory is the fuel pumps fail on these vehicles often. The pump may be running but it may not be making enough volume or pressure to keepo the car running or to start it.judging by what you have stated above this sounds to me more like a failing fuel pump since you had a lack of power at first. So to test the pressure you would have to purchae a fuel line adapter and a gauge to check it,it should be around 54 to 59 psi for pressure.I hope this helped,if you need anything else let me know,Thanks Pete

Do I have to drop the tank to replace the fuel pump?

Posted by Pete 17 days and 3 hours ago.

Info Request

yes the tank does have to be dropped out in order to replace the pump,if the tank is more towards the empty side already then this task isnt bad,but unfortunately the tank has an anti siphon ball in it to block people from siphoning out gas.Just disconnect the electrical connector at the rear of the tank for the fuel pump, disconnect the feed and return fuel lines at the rear of the tank as well as the tank vent hose and then the filler hose and then removbe the bolts that hold the tank starps in place and lower iot down while maneuverig around the exhast pipe.I hope this helped,if you need anything else let me know,Thanks Pete
