Answer
Thanks for the question XXXXXXXXXXXX.
In direct answer to your question : What you should do, just to be on the safe side is have your vet check your Staffy over sooner rather than later.
While the symptoms you describe would not allow me or any other vet to pin this down to any one particular disease I would say from the fact that he is shaking and is lethargic that it is highly likely that your dog is running a temperature and so may be in the grip of some kind of infection.
I normally like to suggest home remedies if I can do this safely but in your case I think it is not worth the risk as it could well be that antibiotics would be what is needed if your dog is indeed running a temperature, but you should be aware that other diagnosis are also possible. I am sorry I cannot give you any more specific advice via the internet.
If I have not covered your question fully enough or you would like to ask more I will be online for the next hour or so and I will be at your disposal.

I wraped him in a warm blanket and he did stop shaking. H edid get caught in thr rain and needed warming up. What was odd was that he kept laying down on the common in the rain and dirt (which he would not usualy do as he does not like to get wet). One thing that I did noticed, he could not get comfortable and his tail was between his legs. He also appeared to be looking at his back end.

Answer
Hello again,
This sort of thing is always a gamble ...
The shaking and the tail between his legs would be typical of a raised temperature and an infection of some sort or general discomfort. The trouble is it is so difficult to give you any proper advice without examining your dog.
The safest thing to do is to have your vet take a look.

It still does not answer why my dog who is normally full of enery, lied down on the wet grass, got up with no difficuty but kept repeating this behaviour. Could this have been psycholoical
Accepted Answer
Hello again,
1. This does not sound like pure psychological behaviour, it is could be some disease process is going on.
2. It is possible that if your dog is running a temperature and felt hot that it could have been trying to cool down by lying on the wet grass.

Scott
