Question

I have a 2003 Kia Sorento that starts sometimes and doesn't. If it doesn't start in the morning and I try a couple hours later it starts with no problem. If I also throw in a water remover it starts right away. I think maybe it is a fuel problem. Any suggestions?

Info Request

Hello there, welcome to Just Answer. Sounds like you might have a slight problem, i think we'll be able to take care of this. First I need a little information. Have you had any other work done lately? Do you have a gas cap, and does it have a good black rubber seal on it? Is your check engine light on? When it does finally start up, how does it seem to run, any shaking or funny noises? Please let me know as much as you can and we'll try to help figure this out.

Thanks. No work done on it lately except for having the engine replaced with one that have 16,000 miles on it last year July. It started that problem once in September last year and I used Iso- Heet and it started right away with no problems and up until a couple of weeks ago it started that problem again in which I used Iso- Heet and that worked. But this past weekend it started fine in the morning and I used some Iso- Heet and that didn't work this time then a fews hour or so after it would start. I then tried a couple hours after and started with no problem. It does have a gas cap on but I'm not sure of a good black rubber seal and no check engine light is on. When it starts to runs fine normal and smooth no shaking or funny noises. For the past three days until this morning it started fine.

Answer

OK, it sounds like your fuel filter is clogged. Possible need and injector service. It wouldn't hurt while your there, to take off the intake tube and clean the throttle body and idle air control valve. That should take care of it. If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask. Thanks again Auto Surgeon

Answer

It would definetly help if you get the computer checked for any codes, just so we can see about code history. Sometimes that gives us a good idea of where to go. Thanks again and hope i was helpful. Thanks again Your AUTO SURGEON

One more thing. What can I use to clean the throttle body.

Accepted Answer

The safest way to clean a throttle body is WD-40 and a clean rag. Spray the WD-40 on the rag, not into the throttle body and clean around the edges and open the throttle plate and clean the edges of the throttle plate. The best way to clean it would be an old tooth brush so you can get cloos to the edges, try and not to push the dirt in and behind the throttle plate. Thank you for choosing Just Answer, and hope to here from you.

Well there were no codes available and the fuel filter was never changed by the technician and the fuel pressure and everything is just working fine. The fuel pump relay was changed and they told me before going ahead and getting into unnecessary expenses we will see if any changes with the fuel pump relay being changed. What do you think about that?
