Question
My daughter's car, a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant,4-cylinder engine, approximately 115,000 miles on it, stopped on her last week and is currently in the shop. The mechanic said it appears to be a broken timing belt which will likely run in the $500 range to repair. He also said, however, it is possible damage may have been done to the valves when the belt broke. Any ideas as to how much repairs to the valves might cost? I just trying to figure our if the car is worth those kind of repairs. It was running well, prior to this timing belt breaking. Thanks!

The valve repair could easy cost as much as $800 dollars. And yes he is telling you the truth. No way to know if damage was done until a new belt is put on it.
