Question

Hi Doctor, I just had my blood test result today. My doctor said I have Harpies. A kind that will break out around my mouth. But he also said there's nothing I can do about it and it's not contagious if I don't have anything around my mouth. I needed to know what I need to take care of. How will it impact my sexual life and health? Will it affect my partner or generation in any way? And can't I do anything to cure it? I like to be healthy in every aspect and do not feel comfortable with this unclear knowledge hoovering my mind. Please advise me.

Answer

Hello,

Welcome to Just Answer and thanks for your question. There are a huge number of herpes viruses. The one called herpes simplex 1 (HSV-1) causes cold sores around the mouth. When you have an outbreak around your mouth, you should no kiss anyone nor perform oral sex on anyone since it can transfer the virus to mucus membranes of the other person (lips, mouth, or genitals) and infect them. There is no cure for HSV-1 but taking an antiviral at the first tingling sensation of a cold sore forming can either prevent its forming or lessen the severity and duration that you have it.

The HSV-2 virus causes genital herpes. There are no cures for either virus, only treatment.

So, the only thing I can do is constantly watch my mouth area for cold sores? Is there any way to prevent the outbreak or early detection? What medicine can I take at the earliest sign of it before I can arrange an appointment with a doctor? If possible please show me how it'll look like so that I can watch for it. And, again, will it have an impact in any other aspect of my health or generation?

Accepted Answer

Before you get a cold sore, there is usually a slight tingling or itching the day before. It usually doesn't look any different than the surrounding skin, or it may be just a tiny bit swollen. At that point you would start to sue the antiviral medication prescribed by the doctor. It will have no effect on your health or generation. There are no antivirals available over the counter.
