Answer

Hi and thank you for your question. I am sorry your daughter isn't feeling well. Most cases of tonsillitis are caused by a virus and even though her tonsils have been removed, her immune system is not up to par. Leukopenia ( low white bloos cells) leaves a body more susceptable to infections of all kids because the white blood cells are the fighter cells we have to combat infection. While she is recovering, She will need lots of rest, which she is already doing, plenty of water daily, and a good multi vitamin. You may ask her Dr if he wants her to take B12 and folate, which helps in some cases of leukopenia. She should start to feel better over he next few weeks. If she developes any signs or symptoms of illness ( for example a fever or a cough) call her Dr right away so he can start her on antibiotocs if he feels it is appropriate. I hope this information helps you, if so, please click accept. Thank you and I wish your daughter the best! :-)

This is what we have been doing but the weeks where she should be feeling better have turned into months and no light at the end of the tunnel. When she eats she is hungry, then vomits shortly after or if she stands for any lentgh of time

Accepted Answer

While some viral illnesses really knock a person down for a long time, she is young and should be starting to spring back. If you haven't already, I think you should take her to a pediatric infectious disease specialist to rule out any other problems and to try to help her to feel better sooner.
