I have a Magic Chef gas furnace model G83-100D-1 that will not kick on when the thermostat is turned up. the pilot light is lit and steady. Any info would be very helpful

Hi,

If the pilot was lit and you had 24 volts on the gas valve then the valve is defective or its not turned to the ON position, let me know.

Can I purchase a replacement valve at a home center?

Usually not, you can order them online though, if you give me the numbers you can find on it I can give you a website or you can look into it yourself. The number will probably start with either C or a V,
