Question

I have a temp star 80. I'm getting power to the main module but no igniter. The gas company came out and bypassed the thermostat using their own and still no igniter. The unit was installed in 1994. What can I do to get the igniter to come on?

Answer

Hi,

If you have power at the ignition module yet no trial for ignition then it is likely that the ignition module is defective, where exactly are measuring power at ?

Thanks

The gas company checked the wires to the main module and also the suroounding wiresconnected to the igniter to make sure they were all getting the proper voltage reading. He yelled them out as he was checking but I can't remeber exactly which was he was referring to. But when he finished he said that they all corresponded properly to what they should be. He said the problem is within the doule unit or the ignition module as you referred to it. I priced the module at $244.50. If it is the problem. It appears to be pretty simple to disconnect the wires(Making a diagram of all the connections) and pulling the module out by myself. Just trying to not use the high price of a heating technician if possible. Will I be able to return the igniion module if that doesn't resolve the problem? Thanks!

Answer

Hi,

You won't be able to return it , manufacturers are pretty strict on electronic parts returns and they basically don;t let you once it is installed.

What is the exact number of it ? I may be able to find a better price for you on it.

Thanks

The numbers written on the module are the following: ST9120G-2008. Underneath that is: HQ1008773HW. The model number printed on the side near the valve is: NTC5075BHB2. I hope this helps. Thanks for the fast reply.

Last question Mark. Is this a job for a heating technician or can I do it myself making sure all the corresponding wires are in applied prior to dismantling the module?

Accepted Answer

Hi,

You won't hurt anything by trying, most of these are a straight changeout and the wiring is obvious but sometimes it isn't. So its hard to say. You are welcome to reply back once you get the new part if you get stuck before calling a tech out but if you aren't comfortable with it you can call a tech out to do it , most people opt for a tech.

Thanks

Mark
