Hi there
I'm very sorry to hear that you have the neuropathy....very painful condition. I am wondering if your Dr might take a different approach to your medications and put you on something else since you have already built up a tolerance to these medications as patients often times do.
I don't know if the drugs you have listed are the only drugs you have tried, but I will give you the names of some different types of medications that have been approved and used for this condition.
Neurontin is a commonly used drug for this type of pain associated with diabetes. Also, a group of drugs called tricyclic antidepressants, such as amitriptyline, imipramine, and desipramine (Norpramin, Pertofrane) have been used with success. Also, Wellbutrin, Celexa, and Paxil are a few other common ones. And remember, you don't have to be 'depressed' to use these drugs. They have other uses other than just depression. There is also a drug called Lamictal that is being used for neuropathic type nerve pain and it was original used for seizures but has been found to have a positive impact on nerve pain.
Sometimes, it takes the right combination of drugs to make the other one work better (called the synergistic effect). Also, making sure that your blood sugar levels are well controlled will prevent further nerve damage and help keep your pain from worsening.
So, your Dr can change your meds and you can use a new combination until you start to see that you are developing a tolerance again, then the meds can be changed again. You don't have to suffer....you just need your medications changed up and I think you will see some relief.
Hope this helps!
