Yes, during dialysis my husband's blood turned black and they told him to come back tomorrow. What would cause this?

Answer

There was probably some internal thrombus inside the blood vessel. This is quite common during dialysis and is nothing very serious. Your doctors are probaby already giving you medicines (anti thrombotics) to prevent blood clot formation.

Could this have happened by a falling injury?

I did not understand that....Did he fall down somewhere and injure himself? Is he bleeding or having bruises?

He slid down a 10' imbankment into the river Saturday while fishing and bruised his back and legs. The inserts for his dialysis are in his chest. Do you think this would've caused the thrombis?

So, where did you see the black blood coming from?

Into the blood pump line during dialysis this morning.

Accepted Answer

I think the black blood was probably due to the fall. But dialysis patients do have tendency to blood clot formation. So, it could be due to both the factors acting together.
