i have gone thru menopause naturally and been told i have osteprosis at age 58 and do not want to take any of the meds that are presciption and want to know if progesterone cream and calcium can fix this problem.

Hello; Thank you for writing in today. Obviously, I would recommend using prescription medications, since there has been some advancements with regard to bone loss; however, since you are not interested in using prescription medication, I could offer some suggestion. High calcium, vitamin D, well balanced diet, and weight bearing exercise are the best nonprescription interventions for maintaining bone and preventing further bone loss. Hormone therapy use to be used to treat osteoporosis. Specifically, estrogen replacement, not progesterone, was prescribed. Hormone replacement is less common and not considered a first line therapy any longer, due to the considerable risks associated with estrogen replacement. I hope this helps answer your question.
