Thank goodness you're not ripping me off. My problem is with my HP Pavillion dv9700 notebook or laptop computer. I purchased it and my other HP computer and printer in August, 2008. I always keep the laptop plugged in. When I turned on the laptop Saturday morning, I got a message that said my power was down to 5%. I then noticed that I had accidentally unplugged the laptop, so the battery had not been charged. I then plugged in the laptop and turned it off. I did not try to use it again until Sunday morning. At that point, I noticed that I could not connect with the internet. I have a wireless connection to the internet.
I am communicating with you through my desktop PC. On the desktop, I got a message that my virus and anti-spyware and my firewall are all down on the laptop. My desktop security is fine. I have contacted HP, but I cannot understand their tech support people. Their English is not good.
Yesterday, I contacted Microsoft. Their tech support seemed to think that the laptop problem may be that Explorer 8 was trying to install and only did so incompletely. I don't know enough about computers to try to install anything. I am the only one who uses the computers in my home, so this installation is is one that has been forced on me by Microsoft. Anyway, after we went through some routines, I got a window on my laptop that said that there might be a problem with one or more of my adapters. That signalled to me that my problem may be hardware and I may need to rule out hardware problems before continuing with Microsoft tech suppot. My laptop is a 32 bit system running on Vista Home Premium. Please advise. And thanks for waiting. I am also a care-giver for my senior citizen parents and after being on the phone all morning with HP, I had to take a break and make lunch for my parents.
that could be a lot of things. most likely a problem with the wireless card in the laptop. if it is a hardware problem and card is actually bad you will need to have it repaired. however it could be a bad driver or even trying to hook into the wrong network.
in network connections find the wireless adapter and double click on it. it will tell you if it is connected and the signal strength. if it is connected to the wrong network or not connected there is a search for networks in range button. click that find your network on the list and connect to it.
If the wireless will not connect or says disabled try right clicking on it and tell it to enable. there is also a repair function on the right click menu. try that.
i assume you have tried rebooting the computer. If the wireless card is not built in remove it from the usb port wait a few minutes and plug it back in and see if it gets reckognized. if it is built in you obviously cant remove it. in control panel go to system devices. find the wireless card. highlight it and delete it. reboot the computer it should find it as new hardware and reinstall it. then you can try the steps above until it works if it does not do so immediately. if it can not install the card you need to find the drivers for it on the hp site move them from one computer to the other and try again
i know how you feel. i just had a friend buy a laptop and pay staples an extra 150 for their extended support. when it broke while still under hp warranty staples told her mail it to this address. which is the same thing hp told her under the normal warranty but they provided a free box. out of country tech support that cant speak English is a pet peeve of mine. as is companies that charge extra for a "special" warranty when the device is already under manufacturer warranty.
thank you for the information. if i have been helpful please hit the accept button if you have not already done so. i am a new expert here and any positive feedback as well as the accept button is greatly apreciated. thank you once again.
