Question

I am a 63 year-old male with generally good health. I have had green stool for past 2 days, which is very rare for me. Could this be an indication of a major problem? I still have my gall bladder and appendix.

Hi and thank you for your question. When we see green stool is most often due to food passing more quickly through the intestine than it normally does ( Called rapid transit). Other causes may be malabsorption, crohn’s disease, laxative use and irritable bowel syndrome. High iron foods and purple food coloring can also turn the stool green. In the absence of other symptoms, It is probably nothing to be concerned about and can be attributes to rapid transit. If it continues and any other symptoms arise please contact your physician for an examination. I hope this information helps you, if so, please click accept. Thank you and I wish you the best!
