Question

2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport AWD When the engine is cold, and occasionally other times, when i shift from park to drive it takes several seconds for the transmission to respond. This just started about 3 weeks ago. I had the transmission fluid flushed and changed. That didn't make a difference. Could it be a fuse or something?

Hi!
This would not be an electrical problem because when shifting the vehicle from park to drive, fluid is routed through what is called a manual valve, which is directly connected to your shifter.
This valve routes fluid to your forward clutch which engages drive. If it is taking several seconds to engage, you most likely have a pressure loss internal in the transmission, which delays the amount of time before drive engages.
This pressure loss can be at the clutch itself, in the solenoid body, the valve body,
or internal to the case.
My best recomendation would be to visit a reputible tranmsission shop, to directly diagnos the problem. Special tools, and an experienced mind is needed to diagnos the transmission correctly, with only replacing failed components, instead of replacing the entire transmission.
I wish I could tell you a fuse is the problem, but this is definetly internal to the transmission.
Thanks
Nick.
