Question

Since about June this year, I have had pain (increasing in severity over the months), in my right arm after laying on it - I sleep on my right side and when I awaken in the night to go to the bathroom, and sit up, the pain from my shoulder down to the elbow of my right arm is extreme until I cry with pain - after having the arm hang down awhile, the pain lessens and during the day when I'm up, goes away entirely. At night, sometimes it lasts awhile, causing sleep problems. I have some small nodules I feel in the arm and have been prone to lipomas (fatty tumors) and wonder if that could cause this. I've had weight gain since probably April, abdominal puffiness (had CT scan to rule out ovarian cancer as it runs in my family), have swelling in upper right arm down to elbow, especially noticeable in the back, like a bag of water - and notice my right arm doesn't fit well in blouses I've worn before. I am concerned about lymphoma - sister died of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, etc.

Gender: Female
Age: 73

Already Tried:
Have used a product called BioFreeze (roll on or spray) that will temporarily relieve symptoms. Have not seen the doctor yet. If I sleep on my left side, thereby not putting pressure on the right arm at night, it does not hurt or swell.

Accepted Answer

Hi and thank you for your question. As you know from your sister's experience, the swelling you have described can be a symptom of lymphoma, it can also be due to another cause. such as fatty tumors if they are obstructing blood flow. I would recommend you see your Dr as soon as possible for a diagnosis and treatment. I wish you the best:-)
