i have a 1yr old lab that recently started limping due to a lump on his front right paw he plays alot and hard he still plays but limps alot is this something i should take him to get looked at or could it just be something i can take care of at home

Hi XXXXXXX~

 

Because there's an actual lump involved...which could be many things from an underlying fracture to a foreign body...I think the best thing to do is to have your vet take a peek...especially if keeping him off of it hasn't helped.

 

My guess is that they'll probably take a quick x-ray to rule out fractures, and then will probably try him on an anti-inflammatory/anti-pain medication to see if that helps bring the swelling down and make him more comfortable.

is there anything i can give him as far as human anti inflamatories until i get him to the vet

You could probably give 1 low dose aspirin once every 12 hours or so..however, if your vet opts to remove the lump, the aspirin could cause some bleeding issues, so it might be best to not give anything tonight, and then talk to your own vet in the morning.
