Question

I am a 30 year old male, that has felt terrible over the past 3 months. I have been having severe left shoulder pain, off and on, sharp pains in my chest every now and then, and a heart beat ranges from 47-150, about 1 to 2x a week. I have had an echocardiogram, stress test, wore a heart monitor for around 3-4 weeks, and multiple ekgs, but my cardiologist said all looks fine. Yet, my sharp chest pain seems to happen more, and my shoulder still hurts everyday off and on. When I do heavy lifting, sometimes I will feel a pull in my chest. This all started about 3 months ago,and I have had problems for anxiety and depression in the past and have been on lexapro for about 10 years. When I started to feel all this new pain my doctor put me on buspar and clonazopam as well. I have had all of these tests done within the last month. Last ekg and cardiologist visit this past week. I feel extrmely tired after I do any heavy activity. I feel like I am about to die almost everyday, I feel so bad.

Hi and thank you for your question. I am so sorry you are going through this ordeal. Form the outside looking in it seems like it may be an anxiety issue. With all the negative tests and the anxiety history, it fits well. I know that's a lousy answer.. it would be nice to have a more physical cause because concrete things are alot easier to work on. Anxiety causes a person to tense up in various ways..remember the fight or fllight we learned about in school..well this may be the cause of your pains and difficulties. Adrenalin, catecholamines... the result is heart acceleration, flushing, digestion slows, the spincters everywhere tense up, the blood vessels conctrict, fat and glucose is released, and the blood vessels dilate, peripheral vision and hearing are decreased and reflexes become hyper.. it's no wonder anxiety sufferers have these very symptoms....and more because sustained anxiety snowballs to include more and more discomfort and feelings of unwellness. Have you had any cognitive behavioral therapy?
