Answer

Thank you for using Just Answer!

There are many codes that determine how and where the pellet stove can be installed within the home, including how and where it can be vented. I am attaching a link to the NFPA rules concerning the distance to windows, doors and air intakes.

http://www.pelletstove.com/pelletvent/verticalinstal.html

Your specific question is answered in section 5A(2). Not less than 4 ft.(1.2m) below, 4 ft.(1.2m) horizontally from or 1 ft. (304mm) above any door, window or gravity air inlet into any building.

This is being installed in a 2009 doublewide mobile home will that make any differences. Since I have bought this a week ago I have run into all kinds of issues. I am now wondering if I just can not have a wood or pellet stove in my home....If I go by your instructions it will put the smoke vent to the outside right near the corner and if I measure from the side of the pipe to the window I am just bearly over 4ft. So now I will have to buy more pipe to get to the corner and if I install say another 45 degree pipe and another 1 foot pipe will that be to many bends as well???? I just want to get these answers before I cut a hole into my brand new house if you know what I mean......

Answer

Installing the pellet stove in a mobile home does make a difference. According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development the stove must be approved for use in a mobile home. You should contact the manufacturer prior to installing the stove and make sure that the model you have purchased is approved to be used in a mobile home. If the manufacturer does not provide you with satisfactory information, I would contact HUD directly.

Well Jay the manual for the pellet stove says right on the front page that it is approved and can be used in mobile homes and doublewides..so are there specifications that are made specific for mobile homes??? and if there are where can I find these specifications so I can install the stove the right way the first time,

Accepted Answer

If the manual states that it is approved for mobile homes then it will have a section that will outline how it must be installed in mobile homes. The specific regulations relating to the installation in a mobile home should be in accordance with the manufactured home and safety standard. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD Cite 24CFR3280.707). This states that the stove must be vented to the outside. There are also some additional mandatory requirements for installation in mobile homes:

- Stove must be permanently attached to the floor.
- Stove must have an outside air source.
- Stove must be electrically grounded to the steel chassis of the mobile home.
- Vertical chimney vents must have wall supports.
- All exhaust systems must have a spark arrestor.

All of these specifications should be listed in the manual because it is advertised as being mobile home approved. I would recommend also contacting a local building official to determine if they require anything additional.
