in autocross it is not always power that makes the difference it is about handling and being able to carry as much speed through the course as possible. the most bang for the buck is going to come from a good set of aftermarket adjustable coilovers. there are many systems out there for the mx5 as it is a very good platform for racing. the prices range from realy affordable to sky high and depend on your budget. the best i have used in the past are tein edfc coilovers. they are midrange priced and offer great adjustability. also focus on stiffening the sway bars to keep the car flat in the corners and eliminate body roll which causes you to have to scrub speed to go around a corner. also nothing beats a good set of tires. you are going to want to stuff the fattest set of tires you can under the fenderwells as these are the only things actually making contact with the ground. you have to watch the mods you do as some mods you do may move you into a class with cars that are alot more powerful then yours so check the rules book for what mods are allowed in what classes and build to suit the class you want to race in so as not to be outgunned by everyone else in your class...
