Question

My Outlook Express delete file has over 8,000 messages that I've failed to delete. Now when I try, I get the message that they can't be deleted because I don't have enough memory. Help ! What can I do?

I've tried compacting all folders, which failed to happen. I got a message to send a report to Microsoft (which I didn't bother with). I tried compacting a small file. That worked. Then I compacted all of my inbox files. That took time...but it worked. I have over 4,000 of those that have been piling up over the months. Then I compacted the outbox, which also has a ton of messages.

Unfortunatley, I have to run now....so I can't try compacting my deleted files yet.

I think your advice is going to work - by compacting I'll be able to delete.......so of course, I want you to be paid...but I'd like to tackle this tomorrow again when I have time.

So I will be in touch tomorrow to continue.

How does that sound?

Accepted Answer

If comapcting the folders fails for Deleted Items then you can try the following steps:

Open Outlook Express and click Tools-> Options

Click Maintenance tab

Click Store Folder

Select the path displayed for store folder and copy it (right click and select Copy)

Click Ok twice to close the dialog boxes.

Close Outlook Express

Click Start-> Run

Right click and select Paste

A window should open

Look for the file Delected Items

Select and delete it

Start Outlook Express and try to delete a single email

It should now recreate the Deleted Items folder

Let me know so that I can follow up further.

Thanks
