1985 Oldsmobile Supreme Cutlass V-6 keeps breaking fan belt that drives the alternator, water pump and radiator fan. The last belt lasted 2 months--the alternator is new but water pump has not been replaced. Car is 24 years old and has 63,000 miles. It is the middle belt between the A/C compressor belt and the power steering belt which have not broken. Someone suggested that particular engine had problems with crankshaft pulley failing??

Only the alternator (with its pulley) has been changed.

No. Does any one make these old style belts out of Kevlar?

If the problem only started after the alternator was replaced, It sounds like the alternator is out of alignment, putting to much stress on the belt causing it wear out and break prematurely. If you had a shop preform the work, I would take it back for correction.
