Answer

There are a few things you can do to help prevent this, the best is to cover the unit, but first I have a couple of questions. My first is , did you buy this unit new or used? The reason I ask is because normally the plastic and trim will yellow first, which makes me think that this unit may have been clear coated by the seller? Besides that if you use a low abrasive rubbing compound, followed by a high quality wax this will moisten and polish the finish, be sure to avoid the decals with the rubbing compound, the vinyl cant take the abrasion. Hope this helps and thanks, Jeff

I bought it used from a small dealer. If he did clear coat it is there anything that I can do? How can I tell if clear coated? Thanks

Accepted Answer

If its clear coated your only option is to try and keep it waxed, unfortunatly there isnt much more until it starts to peel then you can have it removed and restripped by a reputable company, Clear coat is a cheap way to make a unit shinny for a sale. It doesn't last or look good for very long, in my opinion it should be illegal , but thats just me. If you can't tell by looking you can drive by any body shop and they'll let you know for free within about two seconds, and dependingon the quality maybe have a sugestion. Good luck and thanks again, Jeff
