Hello; Thank you for writing in today. Yes, there are many different things that can cause an abnormally high CA-125. Cancer is one concern; however, other conditions, such as cysts and endometriosis can raise a CA-125 level. I don't generally share personal information; however, sometimes, it does help. A few years ago, I had a very elevated CA-125 and an abnormal ultrasound. I was told I had cancer. However, after the tumor was removed, I was found to have a large endometrioma. There was no cancer. My gynecological oncologist told me that this happens more often than one would think. At this point, I would recommend you look at the whole clinical picture. An elevated ca-125 is just one aspect of the big picture. I hope this helps. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let me know. Lisa

Answer

I completely understand. At this point, again, remember an elevated CA-125 does not mean cancer. Cancer is a concern; however, at this point, try to stay positive. I know this is a difficult time for you. At this point, the important thing is to have the cyst remove and wait for pathology. Until someone diagnosis this as cancer, it's not cancer. Hope for the best. Lisa

Thank you Lisa for your responce, I truly appreciate it. I am going to keep a positive attitude and stay strong, just as I did before. my CA-125 reading was 114. but I am going to take your advice and try at this point not to get myself worked up too much till I have the cyst removed and find out ther results.

Answer

The CA 125 is high and you do have a history of ovarian cancer, it is quite concerning for cancer, but, again, stay positive. I think some concern at this point is warranted. It is a possibility; however, again, wait for the results. Staying positive is important. Even if this does come back as cancerous, a positive attitude is so important. I wish you all the best. Lisa
