Question

My dog is a five year Yorkie/Poodle mix. She excreted in the house in the afternoon and then threw up in bed last night. She repeated these actions this morning. She was taken for a walk by my neighbor around noon today during which she voided more formed excrement which was followed separately by several drops of bright red blood. I can't get her to the vet until Friday evening. What should I do and do you have any thoughts on what could cause her problems? This is very atypical behavior for her. Thanks.

It sounds like your little one has an upset stomach. These things happen when they get into or eat things they aren't suppose to. What I get from your explanation is that she had some loose stool that was then more formed. The blood is from irritation to the colon. We know that it not digested or from other parts of her digestive tract because it is bright red, if it were from further up in the digestive tract she would have tarry dark stools. The vomiting is also in correlation with the upset stomach. Sometimes just putting them on a bland diet can help settle their stomachs and get things back to normal. So something like boiled chicken breast without the skin and plain white rice for a day or two. If she gets worse she may need medications to help clear things up but from the sound of it she doesn't appear that way. I hope all goes well.
