Hello crater,

There is no inheritance tax here in the US. Instead the IRS imposes estate taxes on estates which exceed a certain value, but that would not apply in the case of an estate that belongs to a person who is not a US citizen.

Any inheritance that you receive will not be subject to any tax. However, the IRS does have a reporting requirement for people who receive gifts or bequests which exceed the amount of $100,000. If the amount you are receiving from a foreign inheritance exceeds this amount, you would need to file Form 3520 with the IRS to report receipt of this money. No tax is due with the form, but it is a reporting requirement.

Filing the form 3520 is really for your own protection, as if you were ever to be audited you would have a clear record of reporting where this money came from.

Thank you crater.
