Hi There!!!

Thanks for Choosing Just Answer....

You say your step is not working, and you are plugged into shore power, DO you have any other 12 volt systems working?

Thanks, Robert

Dear Robert, I'm not quite sure but I have a solar system installed on the roof which was supposed to maintain my battery when not connected. this monitor system runs on 12 V if I'm not mistaken!? Even the control panel for for the battery, gray and fresh water is working so I presume that some of the 12 V system is working. the step was working before and one day in between but now, nothing! it is even very hard to follow the cables in order to check the connections. I guess, it has something to do with this door sensor but I'm not quite sure!

OK

We need to figure out if the lights and other areas are working first, such as the water pump etc. Check the house battery voltage at the battery it should be over 12 volts, if not the converter may not be charging the batteries, the converter takes the incoming AC voltage and makes DC voltage and also charges the house battery. IF the voltage is in fact good you can start to troubleshoot the step.

You may have a fuse block for the house items. Get a 12 volt test light and probe all the fuses, this will tell you if you have a bad fuse OR no power to that circuit. The step sensor switch will be a pin switch or magnetic switch, if you have a magnetic switch you want to make sure it is clean and they are lined up. Running a pick up magnet over the fixed magnet in the door frame should allow the step to move. Next what you can do is get under the step and you will see the motor and controller, may have to remove a cover. You can unplug the motor from the controller and hook 12 volts with jumper wires from a 12 volt drill battery to the motor, if the step fails to move the motor is bad. The other issue could be the control box, using a 12 volt test light will tell you if the control box is receiving power, each time you open the door you should hear that control box clicking... Almost forgot also some manufacturers install a power switch for the step near the entry door, make sure it is not turned off, this would cut power to the step.... Hope this helps, I know it is allot of information so please feel free to ask if you haver any more questions....
