Question

My daughter just bought a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo. It is a four door and does not have power locks. The back doors do not open from the inside or the outside even when the locking button is lifted up. It is almost like a child-proof feature is engaged, but this should not prevent the door from opening from the outside. When the lock buttom is moved up and down you can hear the locking mechanism engage and disengage, but the doors will not open. It is the same problem on both back doors. Any ideas?

Answer

Hi, Something has been disconnected from the handle to the main lock usually it is the door ahndle that is the problem.the inside could have the child locks on and thats why the inside will not open. or the lock itself has frozen or is in lock postion and thats why neither inside or outside are working. Would have to get door panel off and see what is going on inside to be sure unfortuatly this means ruining the door panel. I hope this helps you.

Thanks

This does not explain why both doors do not open, particularly since they both were working yesterday and not working today. It seems strange that both would break at the exact same time. It was not cold enough to freeze last night either, so I am still looking for an explanation.

Thanks

Update - I just checked the doors again and they are working fine so I guess maybe they were frozen. I checked the temperature from last night and it did get down to about 31. If they stop working everytime it get close to freezing it is going to be a long winter! Why would the back doors freeze and not the front? Is it possible that there is water trapped in them?

Thanks

Accepted Answer

Yes it is possible that water is getting into the lock and it is freezing up. I would spray it down well with wd40 that will dry it out . I would also check the seal around the windows water is probably traveling down the back of the door. You could put some silicon sealer around windows for the winter and just clean of in the summer. If I can help further let me know.

Thanks

Brian
