Question

I have just got over a bout of pneumonia but in the last week or so, my gland on the left side of my neck has begun to ache. Its intermitent and its not swollen but it feels uncomfortable. If I push my finger into my neck it doesnt hurt either and I cannot feel anything thats swollen. Any ideas whats going on?

Hello,

Let me ask a few questions to clarify

Are you still running fever?

Was is bacterial pneumonia or viral?

Are you still taking any medication for it?

Is your throat or ear sore?

Hi,

No fever, otherwise feeling OK. It was bacterial pneumonia and I took 2 lots of antibiotics which have now finished and thats it, im not taking anything now. Neither my throat or ear are sore?

Accepted Answer

It is probably part of the infection. Lymph nodes "eat" up and get rid of the bacteria and just becuase you finished your antibiotics does not mean everything is back to normal. You could have also had a mixed infection which means a viral infection as underlying and that is still trying to get out of your system.

I would really increase the fluids to keep well hydrated, take vit c and try to get plenty of rest.

I would encourage you to see your provider if the gland gets red, significantly larger or it gets hard to swallow.

I hope this helps!
