Question

I have a 2002 SAAB 9-3 cabrio. The blower fan will not turn off no matter what I do even with the ignition off. I have pulled the fuse and that has stopped the fan but the ACC is not showing any fault codes. Any ideas?

I want to try a recalibrate just to ruel it out. Turn key to run and then hold the "auto" and "off" buttons at same time for at least 5 seconds. Do this with fuse out for now. LMK

Answer

In most? cases the blower fan control module has failed. the only way to confirm this is to have a scnner hooked up but I would say at least 80-90% of the Saabs that experience this have been the blower controll module sticking. You cna access the module as shown below. You cna try unplugging it plugging back in them whith fuse installed and fan running, try tapping on the module in several spots to see if the blower will shut off or change tone/speed etc.indicating a bad module. I can not rule out a HVAC control head problem but stats do lean to the blower module as the problem

Fitting

  1. Plug in the connector.
  2. Wipe old silicon paste off the evaporator's mounting surface. Coat a thin layer of silicon paste, part No.30 07 895, on the fan control's contact surface against the evaporator. This is important to ensure proper functioning and normal service life. IMPORTANT : The aluminium spacer supplied with the fan control must not be used.
  3. Fit the fan control in place, checking that its two sleeves enter the holes in the evaporator's mounting surface. Screw the Fan control in place.
4Refit the protective cover.

  1. Put the glove box back in place.
  2. Calibrate the ACC-system by simultaneously pressing the buttons "AUTO" and "OFF". IMPORTANT : When calibrating, all previous diagnostic trouble codes are erased. Obtain readouts of the stored diagnostic trouble codes before calibrating.

Thank you. Looks like a job for the week end. None of the pictures came out. I have a Mac, maybe they work on a PC. Are you able to send them to me by email at XXXXX@XXXXXX.XXX

Accepted Answer

We can not send to emails and the email is blocked as well. I will try to resend a different way. best i can do. Once the glove box is out, you will see a small rectangle box to the left mounted on the HVAC case with a group of wires to it, that is the module. I will try pics shortly
