Question

I bought an LG 47LH40 HDTV on Aug. 26th, 2009 and it has been working great - Today, Oct. 29th, 2009 it appears to not be working. Its all purple, green and white vertical bars and its playing loud static. It responds to mute on the remote but the bars take up the whole screen and I cannot get a menu to come up. I have disconnected everything and unplugged it and cycled the power in hopes of rebooting it but to no avail. Any help would be great because I have been on hold waiting for an agent from LG for 4 and half hours and am still waiting.

Already Tried:
I have cycled the power, un plugged the power and pressed the on/off button until the tv light (red one near the power button) goes out, then plugged it back in and powered it on. No change when I did that, I tried all the remote keys with the tv on and the only one to respond was the mute key.

Sounds bad

Because the sound is affected here it seems like catastrophic mainboard failure

If the sound isnt affected (static)the LCD control board or even the LCD panel itself could have failed

Good job you have warranty here its not looking good!

I have attached a photo of the tv. Is there any other possible cause for this other then a board failure?

Hello

 

No you definetly have a serious issue here

 

Thank You for the photo

Its either the LCD control board sometimes called the tconn board OR the display itself

The LVDS cable that connects the mainboard to control board is a possibility

The mainboard is a slim possibility but I would certainly suspect the above 2 first

 

I have seen this many times on other sets
