Question

My grandbaby got ringworm not long after visiting my house. I have a cat that I've been fostering for the Humane Society (for almost a year)and she had ringworm (along with 6 kittens) when I first got her. I was giving her medicine (and the kittens who stayed in a bathroom, not allowed out into my house)when they gave her to me. But, someone told me that the ringworm could still be in my carpet a year later. I read somewhere that I can use Lysol liquid to get rid of the ringworm in my carpet. Is that true and what type of Lysol would that be?

Hi,

A year would be stretching it, but the fungal spores that cause ringworm are carried on the fur, so if there is fur embedded in the carpet, anything is possible. The main thing is to vacuum very well (dispose of the bags), and clean the carpet. You CAN use Lysol liquid mixed with water, in a carpet cleaning machine, to help kill the fungus, and you can also spray Lysol on the carpet, however, Lysol is toxic to cats, so you must make sure the carpet is completely dry before allowing the cats to walk/lay on it.
