Question

My wife is having sever abdominal cramps. May be constipation as she has not had a bowel movement in two days. She is on antibiotics due to a sinus infection. She is taking Ceprozil 250 mg 2X daily and Cheratussin AC cough syrup as needed. She was fine earlier this evening but the problem as worsened the last hour or so. Any suggestions? Terry guriel

Info Request

Hello Terry,

How severe is the abdominal cramping on the scale of 0-10?

Has she bloating, nausea, fever, gas, heart burn, tenderness at abdomen?

Any significant past medical or surgical history?

Severity - 8 or 9

Bloating, tenderness low in the abdomen

nothing in this area

Accepted Answer

Hello,

A pain severity of the 8-9 with bloating, constipation and tenderness would always point to infective or inflammatory pathology like diverticulitis (or appendicitis, if not previously operated). I am afraid, there is not one can do or should do at home as waiting can complicate the situation. It is advisable that she is seen at ER, as soon as possible.

Please feel free for your follow up questions.

My wife wanted me to tell you that while we have been waiting the pain has lessened to around a 5 or 6.

Answer

Hello,

You can try a suppository. This may open up the bowel and further relieve the symptoms. Fleet enema is not allowed.

It is pleasure and privilege assisting you.

Don't have any suppository in the house and we are in the middle of a major snow storm here in CO.

She is up an moving now and the pain has lessoned a bit.

We will call her local Doctor if symptoms persist.

Thaks

Answer

You are welcome, Terry.

A small Vaseline/cream stimulation at the anus region may open up the bowel.
