Question
A few weeks ago my husband and I saw a red dime sized bump (an outward bump- pimple looking) with a pin sized red spot in the middle (almost looks like it's a pin hole) below our beagle mixes nose. I am wondering if you have any ideas what this may be. I am not sure if it really bugs him I notice him lick his lips a lot, but I may just be paying more attention then I used to. He is still eating normal and acting normal. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well not as lumpy but it is red with that dot in it yes, however, it is more smooth though and it doesn't exactly bulge like that does. If this makes sense it kinda bulges but not as much as that one. I hope I am making sense.

Thanks for the quick reply.
For your information the image I sent you was of a histiocytoma, this is a benign skin tumour which occurs in young dogs there will usually only be one. They are fast growing and are said to have the appearance of a pink button. Sometimes they ulcerate and this is good as it is a sign it is about to regress on its own.
Usually these need no treatment as in a month or so they will regress and disappear on their own, if it is causing any problem then they are easily surgically removed.
Young dogs like yours are prone to various skin lesions but very few of them are of any consequence, however there is always the possibility what you are dealing with is more serious, there can be no guarantees over the internet. Accordingly my advice has to be that you should have your vet check this skin lesion over, hopefully it will turn out to be something minor ...
If I have not covered your question fully enough or you would like to ask more I will be online for the next hour or so and I will be at your disposal.

Thank you for the response. I have one more question. My husband just corrected me in saying that he has had this since our son has been born and that means 5 weeks now does that mean that it will probably not go away then?

Hello again,
While there is no guarantee the lesion your dog has is a histiocytoma if this proves to be the case then I can tell you the following :
1. Many but not Histiocytomas regress spontaneously, there is no fixed predictable time for them to do this. In some cases it would be weeks in others quite a few months. It would depend on the individual animal's immune response.
2. The ones which are obviously not going to regress are easily removed surgically.

Scott
