Hi, Thanks for quick response. I have been told to take 3 a day for a week. They are given as standard and something like CFS/candida is not really understood at my surgery. I have some unopened nystatin powder (all be it 6 months out of date) that i could take. I last took antibiotics 18 months ago.
Many Thanks
Chris
Hi Chris,
Thank you for your question.
Nystatin powder or any other anti-fungal medications are NOT recommend to be used as a prevention. You can have your doctor prescribe you Diclofenac (1 time dose) or another anti-fungal agent to have on hand in case you do develop yeast infection.
However, to be more specific to your question, as what you can use to prevent a secondary infection, is that you can take Probiotic (avaible over-the-counter, for example Florastor). Probiotic is used to improve the colonies of good bacteria which live in your gut. Because antibiotics can kill the good bacteria as well as the bad bacteria, taking Probiotic will improve the good flora in your gut and make you less susceptible to infection. You will need to take Probiotic during the antibiotic regimen and for a few days after.
I hope this is helpful and please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks and feel better,
Julia

I think you might have been asking me another question which, for some reason, I am unable to open. If I am making a mistake, I apologize. If you did have a question, please let me know.
My apologies Chris,
I just saw the question...taking antibiotic will not kill the action of probiotic. The two drugs work through different mechanism.
On a side note, some yogurt brands (such as Activia) also have probiotics so if you like yogurt, I would suggest you eat that along with taking probiotic tablets.
