Question

I have a V70 D5 2002 yr SE manual. The main beam indicator light has stopped working (very occasionally it works for short periods) I have been told that I need a new control box at a cost of £900 which seems very extravagant as everything else is working fine. However the indicator light should be working for the MOT test so I have a problem..... Have you any suggestions on whether there is anything else I should look at first? Thanks

When you say main bean, you mean the head light bulbs or high beams? And control box you mean CEM?

I mean the high beam indicator lamp - the blue light in the centre of the instrument panel.

I may have th incorrect name for the control box - but it is the unit that controlls all the instrumment read outs.

thanks.

Answer

What exactly is happening? The high beam indicator does not come on at all or come on then shuts off on its own or when you try to engage the high beams it doesnt stay on? i need more information

The main beam / dipped beam work fine - it is just that there is no indicator light on the instrument panel to show that the high beam is on. This is a comparatively minor problem but as I said in the intro it is technically a MOT failure and the cost of remedy appears to be very high.

Answer

You may be able to replace the bulb that is behind the instrament panel, some clusters the bulb is not replaceable, you must remove the cluster and check if the bulb is replaceable. But if the bulb cannot be changed you must replace the cluster. Is that the control box you speak of?
