Question

I went to the allergist for a wheezing condition. He did a scope and said it was coming from my throat. He did a scope and said the vocal cords looked fine, but there was an area in the throat that was swollen and inflamed. A mon th ago I had uvulitis. He wants me to see an ENT. I am not a smoker. Your thoughts

Answer

Hello,

This can be an inflammation of the vocal cords / pharyngitis that was caused by a spread from the Uvulitis, or a pharyngitis that occured independent from the Uvulitis.

You need to try doing warm salt water gargles, that would help ease the throat inflammation and ease your symptoms.

You might need a course of Antibiotics if this inflammation and swelling still persists.

Kind Regards,

Dr.Joshi

is there a possibility it could be some form of throat cancer

Accepted Answer

Hello,

As this is a relatively recent occurence, and coming on the back of the Uvulitis, this is more likely to be an infection, rather than throat cancer.

Seeing an ENT having another Scopy would be able to give a better idea.

A biopsy would be required if a cancer is suspected.

Kind Regards,

Dr.Joshi
