prednisone I take for RA causes rapid irregular heartbeat which goes away after several hours. what would happen if I took 120 mg as is recommended to accompany new RA medication.

becuse of rapid irregular heartbeat from prednisone and some pain meds, I have avoided large doses. medication to slow heartbeat was discussed.

high dose steroids can cause high blood sugar, increase risk of infections,psychosis, irregular rapid heart beat, fluid retention and weight gain. these are the common side effects seen with steroids.. how many or how intense they will be varies from person to person and hard to predict with out trial.

I already knew the possible side effects. What I really wanted was would a high dose likely cause long lasting side effects since small doses cause rapid irregular hearbeat.

no the effects are going to be similar to small dose but may be a bit intense.

so would the medication to slow heartbeat I mentioned originally be useful?

well that is just the symptomatic treatment... means that it will temporarily control heart rate procided your blood pressure can tolerate the medicine. best thing would be to stop or avoid prednisone.
