Question

I have a 2004 Kia sedona van. 70K on it . No ABS All the brakes look good . When I hit the brakes hard in the rain iy locks the fronts and slides. How do I check to see if the proprotioning valve is working right?. Is there a special thing I need to do with the valve when I bleed the system? This is a modified handicaped van so there is some differences in the rear suspension

Answer

Load sensing proportioning valve (Without ABS)

Connect the two oil pressure gauges 9810 kPa (100 kg/cm2, 1422 psi) to the inlet valve and outlet valve of rear wheel.
Bleed the air from the brake system.
Depress the brake pedal until the master cylinder pressure equal to A; then record rear brake pressure A.
Depress the brake pedal again, and apply additional pressure until the pressure equal to B; then record pressure B.

I don't have any gauges. I do have a new proportioning valve from Kia. If I install it and bleed the system is there anything special I need to do. I know some systems require to clamp the valve open or closed ?

Answer

THis is what I have for brake bleeding.

Air bleeding (CBS)

Jack up vehicle and support it with safety stands. Caution: Brake fluid reservoir must be 3/4 full during air bleeding.

Remove bleeder cap and attach a vinyl hose to bleeder plug.
Place other end of vinyl tube in a clear container.
Depress brake pedal a few times, and then hold it in depressed position.
Have a second person loosen the bleeder screw, drain out fluid, and retighten screw with SST(OK130 430 019). Tightening torque: 16 - 22 ft. lbs. (21 - 29 Nm, 2.2 - 3.0 kg-m) Caution:
a) Both people should stay in voice contact with each other. b) Be sure pedal remains depressed until air bleed screw is tightened.

Repeat steps 4 and 5 until no air bubbles are seen.
Check for correct brake operation.
Verify that there is no fluid leakage. Clean away any spilled fluid with rags.
After air bleeding, add brake fluid to reservoir until specified level.

Notice: Air bleeding must be starter from bleeder screw that is farthest from the master cylinder
